INTERACTIVE MATISSE

Public art sculptor Bristol

As part of a collaborative artistic venture, a group of us from the Liverpool creative community came together to design and build a sculptural, interactive installation inspired by the works of Henri Matisse. Led by artist Anna Dunn, the piece was conceived as a walk-through wardrobe, a playful and immersive space where visitors could physically engage with the artwork. By stepping inside, they became part of the installation, dressing in oversized, hand-crafted costumes inspired by Matisse’s iconic cut-out technique.

The project was not just about creating something visually striking but about crafting an interactive experience. Alongside the wardrobe, the installation featured a vividly painted floor design and a sculptural chair, all constructed and carefully finished in the scenic workshops. These elements encouraged visitors to explore, sit, and move through the space, making them active participants in the artwork.

The props and structures were made from sustainable materials like eco-friendly wood and brought to life with bold scenic painting, echoing Matisse’s love of colour and form. Every detail was meticulously designed to reflect his playful and creative spirit while also showcasing our commitment to sustainable and innovative art-making.

This installation was more than a tribute to Matisse; it was an exploration of the boundaries of interactive art. By blending sculpture, costume, and environment, we created a space where the audience became part of the story, transforming passive viewers into active participants.
