Beaufort Road parklet
St George, Bristol
In spring 2025, Molly completed a vibrant public artwork at Beaufort Road parklet in St George, Bristol, transforming the space with a bold and colourful floor mural. The project was part of an initiative to enliven urban environments, promote sustainable commuting, and encourage community interaction within shared public spaces.
The resulting mural celebrates the vibrancy and character of St George, incorporating bold patterns and motifs drawn from the local landscape and the creativity of community members.
The design process was deeply rooted in community collaboration. Molly hosted free public workshops, where participants explored collage techniques to generate ideas for the artwork. Themes such as community, direction, home, and local natural elements were explored, providing inspiration for the final design.
With the first workshop at St George Community Centre, participants used an array of colourful papers to develop ideas for the mural. Themes included community, direction, home, local firework displays, and the natural surroundings of St George’s Park. As they worked, bold and vibrant compositions began to take shape, many influenced by the view of trees and greenery just outside the workshop windows.
Molly also facilitated a second workshop with pupils at Summerhill Academy, leading a hands-on creative session where pupils learned about life as a mural artist and reflected on what they value in their local area. The children spoke with enthusiasm about the colourful houses and murals they see every day, before creating collage artworks inspired by their favourite features. Together, they built a model road and placed their mini mural designs along it, gaining a deeper understanding of how a floor mural is designed and developed.
