Mural Festival Flensburg Molly Hawkins

The Looming Large Festival in Flensburg celebrated nine female mural artists and amplified women’s visibility in public art, with headliner Molly Hawkins transforming a 10m × 8m Sparkasse Bank wall.

Inspired by the city’s vivid palette, distinctive architecture, and the wooden Danish boats in the harbour, Molly blended deep fjord blues with warm oranges and yellows to create a dynamic, site-responsive mural.

Painted over a week in public, the piece fostered direct engagement between artist and community and was documented alongside interviews with participating artists. Molly’s involvement also showcased her ability to navigate cross-cultural contexts and communicate effectively across languages.
