3X3 BASKETBALL COURT

Writtle college university

Geometric mural design

In summer 2021, Molly designed and delivered the full‑court artwork for the UK’s first 3x3 basketball court at Writtle University College. Using specialised tennis‑court paints, she led a team of painters and volunteers, liaised with the Sports Department and University Board on design refinements, and completed the install within two weeks despite heat and staffing challenges.

The project drew press attention, including Sky Sports, Basketball England and Design Week, showcasing her large‑scale public art and project management skills.

“Through the merging of Art and Basketball, we see an exciting opportunity in rejuvenating these neglected sports spaces, by painting vibrant artworks on the courts. The energy and response I see from artist painted Basketball courts is incredible, and I notice a movement in how the impact of art can inspire sports. Hopefully the merging of these two vibrant entities will continue to grow and ignite passion for both Basketball & mural painting.

“My design concept for this piece focuses on how shapes and colour can create dynamic motion. The colours I chose create a clash in energy, that to me, feel really exciting and powerful. The vibrant themes of the court I hope will ignite passion and creativity!”
