NORTH ROAD PRIMARY SCHOOL

Artist Residency I Public Realm Commission

North Road Community Primary School (Engine Common, near Yate) commissioned artist-designer Molly Hawkins to create a permanent outdoor artwork for the building and playground, funded by Cotswold Homes (The Grove development).

Appointed in April 2022, Molly ran school-wide workshops (ages 4–11) in badge-making, printmaking, and collage, using pupils’ artwork to shape the final design. Inspired by the school’s colours (purple/green), historic architecture, local nature, and love of sport, singing, and dance, the mural reflects North Road’s values: Respect, Positivity, Perseverance, Ambition, Pride, and Responsibility.

Molly and her team installed both the wall mural and the thermoplastic floor design in summer–autumn 2022, transforming the site and enriching daily life for pupils, staff, and the community.
